75 years of the Dandy

As promised, here are a few more excerpts from my Dandy annual 2013 endpapers.

But can you name all the characters? And yes, I'm including that character of whom we can only see their legs. (No cheating and looking at the actual endpapers -- you shouldn't be looking at that annual til Christmas Day anyway!)

  1. Korky, Jack Silver, Curly Perkins, Peter and his pocket grandpa, Nip, Lip, Rrip, Dirty Dick, and Greedy Pigg!

    1. Well done, sir -- Yay! Thank you for playing.
I'll have to take your word on Nip, Lip and Rrip -- were those really their names? Weird!

  2. I can name the whole lot, but I'm probably gonna have to keep it quiet as not a lot of people actually have the annual yet accept us impatient Dandy fans! ;)

    1. You mean the whole 75, don't you, Harry?
Even the names of the mice from Korky?

    2. Unless you've used Dave Windett's Korky instead of Charles Grigg's, the mice are anonymous :)

(in my opinion, Dave did the best Korky after Bob Nixon died!)

    3. I must confess, I was being mischievous there, and pulling Harry's leg!

    1. Thank you very muchly, kind sir, and tremendously well done, too. You've done better than I would -- I wouldn't have known the names of the Jocks and Geordies characters, for example, and a few of the others -- especially the surnames!
I did, when doing my Robin Hood's Schooldays strips, look into the names of the characters, and nobody seemed to know for sure, not even at Dandy editorial. You're right with the ones you name(Maid Marion, Little John, Alan-a-Dale, and Freddy Tuck, of course, to give them their full monikers) but Will Scarlet is a bit of a gimme, you should've got him -- he's the one in red! (Though admittedly on the endpapers that doesn't show up) The other one I decided was Much, but I don't know if that's what he was called in the original (if he was ever named)
Once again, a fine effort, and thank you for playing!
I feel I should be giving out prizes, really...

  4. Seeing the "classic" style of Cuddles & Dimples on those pages instead of Nigel Parkinson's versions near-enough made my Xmas, so cheers for that!
